Car Seats for Kids
Campaign scope and outcomes
Car Seats for Kids is a Wheel Well initiative aiming to increase the use of child restraints (car seats, booster seats, etc.) and seat belts across the country.
To date, this international award-winning campaign has kept over 10’000 children safer on the roads. We’ve grown from a few seats being donated locally, to a multi-faceted campaign that now includes education, installation, and sanitation as a part of our efforts.
What do we do, exactly?
Wheel Well has 4 main campaigns within Car Seats for Kids, each tackling a specific need when it comes to increasing road safety for children in South africa.
Child restraints are often seen as a luxury rather than the necessity that they are. This is due, in large part, to the growing income inequality in our country. Our flagship campaign, the Seat Exchange, allows those who would otherwise be unable to afford a lifesaving child restraint, access to one at a much more affordable price.
A seat that has been outgrown is donated to us. The seat is thoroughly inspected for defects and cleaned before being put into our stock. These seats are then made available to parents for a flexible, affordable donation.
We encourage parents to re-donate the seat once it’s been outgrown again, to keep the cycle going and to allow us to re-inspect the seat before it can keep another child safe.
