Kids on the Go
Ensuring Safe Transport for School Children
Public and school transport are vital lifelines for South African families, yet the current legislation fails to protect our most vulnerable passengers. The Kids-on-the-Go campaign is our mission to change the law and provide every child with a secure journey.
Our Vision
"To ensure that all children traveling in public and school transport have access to safe and secure journeys, free from the risk of injury and death."
A Rising Tragedy
In 2024 alone, 411 children under the age of 14 lost their lives in car crashes.
Despite this alarming statistic, the National Road Traffic Act does not adequately address the unique safety concerns of children in school transport and taxis.
The Legislation Gap
Regulation 231 of the NRTA 1999 currently allows for dangerous vehicle loading practices that treat children as fractions of people.
The Secure-a-Kid Harness
"Innovative, Portable, Life-Saving."
Designed to properly reposition seat belts for smaller bodies, the harness spreads the impact of a crash, preventing devastating "seat belt injuries."
- ✔ Portable: Fits easily in a school bag
- ✔ Universal: Works in any 3-point belt vehicle
- ✔ Empowering: Gives parents a mobile safety tool

Our Legislative Proposal
We are motivating for critical changes to the National Road Traffic Act (1996).
One Child = One Person
End the practice of overloading school transport. All school-going children must be considered as one person for vehicle loading purposes.
Mandatory Restraints
Legislate that an approved child restraint must be used for every child under 1.5m tall in all school transport vehicles.
Execution Plan
Administration
Selection of beneficiaries and rigorous campaign oversight.
School Talks
Direct hand-out events with education on safe belt usage.
Stakeholders
Engaging industry and government to drive policy change.
Social Exposure
Amplifying the message through digital and community channels.
